The Pokemon Company announced Tuesday that the first official Pokemon games would be released for smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices by the end of 2017.
The first title to hit those platforms will be a smartphone game, a Pokemon TCG.
“This new product is a groundbreaking addition to the TCG family and we’re thrilled to have it in the hands of so many,” Pokemon Co-Founder Tetsuya Nomura said in a statement.
“Pokemongo is the ultimate mobile game, with thousands of Pokemon, a rich and challenging online game, and a social experience.
Our Pokemon fans will enjoy this unique brand new game that will take them on an unforgettable journey.”
The Pokemon TCg is the world’s most popular Pokemon card game and will launch in the first quarter of next year.
Nomura also announced the launch of a Pokemon smartphone app in Japan.
“The Pokemon TCGO mobile app is the most-used mobile app worldwide and it is a huge hit with our fans in Japan, who are already using it to catch Pokemon for real,” he said.
“We are so proud to launch this app in the world leader’s top mobile market and we are excited to continue our efforts to bring more people the fun and excitement of Pokemon in a new way.”
